2010 Blues in the Schools Program

The Saskatoon Blues Society (SBS) and its Blues in the School (BITS) program are happy to welcome Harrison Kennedy to Saskatoon for the 2010 Saskatoon Blues Festival and schools visits.

The Saskatoon Blues Society is pleased to announce our Blues in the Schools program for the 2010 Blues Festival Week will feature internationally recognized artist Harrison Kennedy and local educator Randy "Freight Train" Wayne as our 2010 Artists in Residence.

Festival Week is Monday February 22 - Friday February 26th. We are now booking presentations. Please send your email requests to bits@saskatoonbluessociety.ca. You may also telephone the Blues in the Schools chairman Randy Hawryliw or Marilyn Boll at 384-1141 with any questions.

Presentations are an hour in length and we have held pricing for the 6th year in a row at $200.oo. Book your school early to get your choice of date, time and presenter. We were oversubscribed quickly last year so to avoid disappointment email today.

Harrison Kennedy

We're very excited to have Harrison Kennedy as our International Artist in Residence for this year.

Harrison Kennedy now hails from Hamilton, Ontario, on the shores of the great lakes. He brings a wealth of experience to Saskatoon with him, both as a performing artist and as an experienced educator.

In the 1970s, Harrison was a member of Detroit's Chairmen Of The Board. He appeared, with Chairmen Of The Board, on the Tonight Show, American Bandstand and on BBC's Top of the Pops. He also shared the stage with such blues and R&B greats as B.B. King, James Brown and Stevie Wonder.

After a string of a million selling singles with this legendary band, Harrison hit the road, honing the craft of a consummate bluesman. Harrison has been nominated this year for several prestigious Maple Blues Awards, including Recording of the Year for his latest release "One Dog Barkin' ". He has also been nominated for Male Vocalist, Acoustic Act and Songwriter of the Year.

Randy "Freight Train" Wayne

Bluesman Randy "Freight Train" Wayne is well known as a performer on Saskatoon's blues scene. Whether he is playing solo, in a duo with his partner "Mama B" or with the Transcontinental Blues Band, "Freight Train" remains true to the heart and soul of the blues. He is also a dedicated blues historian and educator and has been involved with Blues In The Schools programs for several years.

"Freight Train" will be presenting solo for the Blues in the Schools program while performing on the Thursday evening of the Blues Festival with his full band, The Transcontinental Blues Band.
